The above blog is spot on.
The only thing the rich and powerful manufacture these days are crises that divert our attention so that they can keep diverting our productivity directly into their pockets.
To be sure, both parties bear responsibility, but let’s be honest. The responsibility and the blame are not borne in equal measures by both parties.
The tea partiers and their cowering brothers and sisters in the GOP bear far more responsibility for the current threats for bringing our government to a grinding halt and for torpedoing a fragile recovery. (A recovery, BTW, that’s been felt only by the wealthy, not the rest of us.)
These people get to DC because too many middle class Americans have been duped into voting against their own self-interests. When people like Cruz and Bachmann and Gohmert and King and all the rest of the so-called Tea Party Caucus are sent to DC and it is they who want to kill government and, by extension, our society, then, yes, my fellow Americans on the right, it is you who must also bear the responsibility for why nothing is getting done or done very well in DC.
The good news is that tea party ranks are in decline, and the movement will soon be relegated to the extreme fringes where it always belonged.
The Democrats are no prize, but the GOP is off the ranch. Here’s hoping that the more rational and reasonable in both parties – but especially in the GOP – will get off the sidelines and exert their influence and their leadership in much greater measure. And soon.
