Hey, middle class. WTFU.

Maher nails it……again.

(Or see a slightly longer version on Facebook)

Republican politicians, you get to STFU about the last 7 years. It’s your ideology and your policies that are responsible for the widening wealth gap, the historic income inequality, and the vanishing middle class. You don’t give a shit about us, and you know it. You’re anti-labor, anti-science, anti-regulation, and so pro-corporation that you wouldn’t know a middle class American if he slapped you across the face with his tri-corner hat.

Democratic politicians, you certainly are no prize, either. Most of you are what St. Reagan would’ve recognized as fellow Republicans with one glaring exception; nearly every single one of you lacks the courage to publicly pick and win fights against your political opponents. Make no mistake. Your cowardice is every bit as much to blame for the disappearing middle class as the batshit craziness of the Teapublican Party and the Boehner-esque corporate toadies in the GOP Old Guard.

What this country needs are more voters showing up and demanding real leaders willing to do what American politicians did after WWII – regulate industry and Wall Street, progressively tax the wealthy since they’re the biggest benefactors from our society, and to have the wisdom and courage to launch bold, new initiatives like infrastructure jobs and to institute programs that benefit all of society like free or nearly free higher education and vocational training.

That means we need to pull together.

You self-professed libertarians and supply-siders need to wake the eff up from your Randian and Reaganomics fantasies. You need to stop believing the Red Team’s lies about deregulation, “free trade”, and trickle-down economics. You need to stop voting for the party of conservative corporatists – the GOP – because that’s a vote against yourselves, your own economic self-interests, and the rest of society.

The only way that a GOP vote makes any sense is if you’re a One-Percenters whose average annual income is $717,000 and whose average net worth is $8.4million.

If you consider numbers like that to be in the realm of winning the lottery AND you still vote for a Republican, you are voting against yourself and the rest of us. WTFU.

You Blue Teamers aren’t off the hook by any stretch. You need to stop being such pansies. Your party’s anything but perfect, and that goes for the guy in the White House, too.

You do have one thing going for you that you don’t exploit nearly enough – you and your party are not as batshit crazy as the GOP. What you can’t seem to bring yourselves to do, sadly, is to loudly, proudly, and clearly call out the other side often and consistently enough for how completely dangerous their insanity is for the rest of us.

That reluctance – and please spare me the “inclusiveness” b.s. – is what makes you cowards. WTFU.

That party cowardice, however, creates the opening all of us can and should exploit.

The cowardice of the Democratic Party – btw, you Repubs can quit the childish practice of calling it the *Democrat* Party anytime now, mm-k? – means that We The People can force our will into government by electing Democrats.

Think about it. You can’t change crazy, but you can force your will on cowards.

Look, I get it. Every poll I take aligns me firmly with the Green and Justice Party. But until our campaign finance laws are massively overhauled – something that will never happen until we politically destroy the most dangerous party ever – we live in a two-party system.

That means, my fellow Independents, that you need to stop staying home and you need to stop throwing your votes away. It only helps the GOP when you do that because, like it or not, conservatives will push the R button en masse every time no matter what. (They really do make the best sheeple.)

All this means one thing.

Unless and until more of us show up at EVERY election and out-vote our fellow citizens who’ve been duped by the GOP into pushing the R button, we’re just going to see the middle class continue to vanish because the GOP doesn’t give a shit and the Democrats are too cowardly to fight without us pushing them to do so.

We Independents can save this country, but not if we stay home and not if we throw our votes away when we do show up at the polls.

About Peaceful Patriot

Proud middle class husband, father, and progressive liberal. Registered Non-Partisan but have much more in common with Democrats than Republicans. Consider Libertarians to be immature and underdeveloped in their understanding of reality. An atheist who doesn't care what you believe so long as you stop pretending the Founding Fathers intended for you to legislatively force your beliefs on everyone else. Laughs out loud in mocking disdain at the abject lunacy of birthers, climate science deniers, and hard core tea partiers. If that offends you, too bad. You're not rational and have no place at the adult table.
